The Client:

Thameslink Website

The franchise to run the Thameslink rail network was won by the Go-Ahead transport group in May this year. Go-Ahead is one of the UK’s leading bus and rail transport groups, employing 23,500 people to make over one billion passenger-carrying journeys every year, from the north-east to the south-west of England.

The Challenge:

Our brief was to create a wholly redesigned and responsive website that offers users a wealth of information and dynamic content to help users of the two main routes in the network plan their journeys. Added to the challenge was the fact we had a completion target time of three months.

The Solution:

Imaginet created a website that:

  • is fully responsive, so that the site restructures itself according to device and screensize - an essential for transport sites
  • uses the Webtis ticket widget for ticket booking, which itself was restyled for simpler booking options
  • gives live running information from National Rail Enquiries (NRE) on each of its two main routes (‘Great Northern’ and ‘Thameslink’)
  • features live disruption and engineering works updates from NRE with a handy Calendar for selecting dates of travel, combined with a Service Update alert admin for conveying important travel news (shown at the top of the page)
  • offers extensive station information direct from an NRE feed
  • has full content management across the site with advanced user Management, documents, news, images and banners so users can control all content across the site
  • makes room for promotion of destinations on the network with 2 for 1 NRE offers and a back-office admin for Destinations management
  • and includes a darksite system so that if traffic to the site explodes, as on snowy days, it can be switched to a low res alternative conveying essential content for travellers.

The Results:

The site went live in September, within the specified time-frame and has already received very positive feedback from the industry.

Go Ahead's Group Marketing Director, Gillian Singh said:

The new Thameslink website was a massive achievement and we were very impressed with Imaginet's ability to work quickly with our team to develop in such short timescales, but also their understanding of our requirements and  the complex third party integrations.  We will now work with them on the next phase of development to introduce even more functionality as well as further improving the retailing opportunities across the site."
