SL First magazine website launches for the deaf community

The only culture and lifestyle magazine aimed at an estimated 10 million Deaf and Hard of Hearing people living and working in the UK

Launched this week is the new magazine website for deaf and hard of hearing, SL First. Designed by Imaginet, the SL First site describes itself as:

  • The only culture and lifestyle magazine aimed at an estimated 10 million Deaf and Hard of Hearing people living and working in the UK
  • The only bilingual digital magazine in the UK
  • Full of national news, articles, events and real life stories focusing on Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers in addition to anyone with an interest in the Deaf Community
  • A unique opportunity for businesses and organisations to tell people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing what they have done to make their business or organisation more Deaf Friendly.

Built to meet W3C accessibility standards, the site offers a variety of options for accessing content, with category driven articles available either online or within a downloadable PDF edition, and many of the online articles featuring videos with British Sign Language commentary.

For the initial web site development Imaginet proposed a simple and contemporary design, primed to attract advertising and encourage businesses to view SL First as their first stop in promoting their deaf friendly services. For the team themselves what was most required from the site re-design was a great content management system offering internal control, updatability and flexibility.
